Area roundup: CCS men’s rally comes up short

Community Colleges of Spokane’s men’s basketball team fought back from a 16-point halftime deficit in the title game of the Centralia Crossover but came up short in an 80-77 loss to Big Bend Community College on Sunday in Centralia, Wash.

Preston Wynne and DeAngelo Jones each scored 20 points to lead five Sasquatch players in double figures. Marlowe Brim scored 12 points with a team-best nine rebounds off the bench, and Taylor Pettersen and Luke Evans each scored 10.

CCS (11-1) trailed 45-29 at the half after shooting just 31 percent from the field, while Big Bend shot 61 percent. The Sasquatch shot 40 percent in the second half and limited the Runnin’ Vikes to 36 percent.

Women’s basketball

Idaho shot a season-best 48 percent from the field in a 65-59 victory over visiting Wyoming.

Ganeaya Rogers scored 17 points – all in the second half – to pace the Vandals (4-7). Alyssa Charlston added 16 and Krissy Karr scored 15 with seven rebounds.

Idaho, which shot just 26 percent in Thursday’s loss to UC Riverside, travels to Cheney to face Eastern Washington on Wednesday.

• Community Colleges of Spokane lost to Pierce College 82-61 in the consolation side of the bracket at the Skagit Valley College Crossover in Mount Vernon, Wash. Amelia Cook scored 10 points to lead the Sasquatch (4-7).

• Mackenzie Argens had 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead Washington past Houston 85-60 in Seattle. The Huskies (7-2), who have won four straight for the first time in five seasons, host Southern on Tuesday.

Hockey

Dylan Tappe had a hat trick and added an assist as the Spokane Braves beat the Grand Forks Border Bruins 7-2 in KIJHL action at Eagles Ice-A-Rena. Kyle Davis, Nick Redding, Thomas McNevin and Alex Marmon also scored for the Braves (14-17-1).
