In brief: Wrestling program scheduled for K-6

SPOKANE COUNTY – Registration is Jan. 17 for Spokane Junior Wrestling’s developmental program for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Parents and guardians can register their children at the high school in their attendance area from 6 to 7 p.m. Participating high school schools are Central Valley, East Valley, Ferris, Gonzaga Prep, Lewis and Clark, Mt. Spokane, North Central, Rogers, Shadle Park, University and West Valley.

There are two evening practices a week and four tournaments: March 10 at Mt. Spokane, March 17 at Central Valley, March 24 at Ferris and March 31 at East Valley.

Cost is $50 and includes tournament fees, T-shirt, officials, medals, awards and insurance. SJW singlets must be worn at tournaments and cost $20 used or $30 new. Make checks or money orders payable to SJW wrestling. No cash will be accepted.

Single Boomers group meets Jan. 28

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Single Boomers will meet at the Black Pearl Restaurant, 2104 N. Pines Road, on Jan. 28 at 6 p.m.

The local singles club will get together for dinner to socialize, meet new people and have fun. Reservations are suggested.

Information nights planned for CCS

WEST HILLS/CHIEF GARRY PARK – Prospective applicants to Community Colleges of Spokane programs will have the opportunity to attend two college information nights. Students can visit Spokane Falls Community College, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive, on Wednesday at 6 p.m., or Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St., on Jan. 11, at 6 p.m.

Staff will provide information for admission, financial aid, and choosing a transfer degree or career-oriented program of study.

Three nonprofits earn credit union’s plaudits

LIBERTY LAKE – Spokane Teachers Credit Union contributed to three local nonprofits Dec. 28 with its “Who do you love?” program.

STCU employees were asked to nominate organizations that focus on education, arts and culture, and community. STCU’s 466 employees nominated more than 80 organizations. The three organizations with the most votes received a check for $1,500.

The winning nonprofits are The Museum of Arts and Culture, the Spokane Humane Society, and the Eastern Washington University Foundation. 

STCU has previously given a total of $6,000 to seven organizations selected by community members at meetings of Greater Spokane Incorporated, the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, and on STCU’s Facebook site.
