Salt Lake drops NIC, takes lead in SWAC

Sofia Hepworth scored 21 points to go with nine rebounds and stole the ball with 20 seconds left in regulation to preserve a 60-58 Salt Lake win over North Idaho (22-3, 8-3) in Scenic West Athletic Conference women’s action Friday in Salt Lake City.

Jami Mokofisi added 12 points and Marrisa Robbins 11 for the Bruins (19-4, 9-2), who snapped the Cardinals’ 12-game winning streak to take control of first place in the SWAC standings.

Tugce Canitez tallied 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Cardinals, while Kama Griffitts added 13 points.

CC Spokane 84, Blue Mountain CC 80: Brooke Randall tied for game scoring honors with 28 points, hitting 9 of 18 from the field, and Korrie Bourn added 26 points and six rebounds for the Sasquatch (19-3, 9-1), who held off the Timberwolves (12-10, 4-6) in Pendleton, Ore.

CCS built its biggest lead at halftime, 44-26, but had it cut to single digits by the Timberwolves in the second half.

The Sasquatch shot 47.5 percent from the floor for the game, scoring 20 points off turnovers.

Men

Salt Lake CC 87, North Idaho 82: Alfonzo Hubbard tallied 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting and added eight rebounds as the Bruins (21-5, 7-4) outscored the Cardinals (20-6, 5-6) 50-42 in the second half to earn the win in SWAC play in Salt Lake City.

Michael Hale III and Tyrone White each scored 20 points and combined for 15 rebounds and seven assists for the Cardinals. The Bruins hit 20 of 24 free throws in the game and iced the win at the line in the final minutes.

CC Spokane 93, Blue Mountain CC 73: Ross Buchert hit 5 of 6 3-pointers and scored 17 points off the bench as the Sasquatch (15-7, 7-3) hit 49.3 percent of their shots, including going 12 of 25 from 3-point range in their NWAACC East win over the Timberwolves (6-14, 5-5) in Pendleton, Ore.

CCS scored 22 points off turnovers, forcing 21 by the Timberwolves in the game. Danny Marshall added 17 points and four rebounds and Chaz Johnson scored 10 points to go with seven boards for the Sasquatch.
