Fourth quarter seals Indians’ win

Matt Hubbard finished with eight points and nine rebounds and Miguel Anaya scored six of his nine points in the fourth quarter as the Colville boys built a 13-point halftime lead and held off Okanogan (10-10) to win 48-39 in the first round of the Bi-District 6/7 1A tournament Tuesday in Moses Lake.

The Bulldogs rallied with a 14-5 run in the third quarter, but the Indians (13-10) followed with a 20-point fourth quarter. Alex Pond scored 11 for the Indians. Colville plays Chelan at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Mead.

In other bi-district tournament action, Trenton Johnson and Dylan Boyd each scored 12 points and the Cashmere Bulldogs defeated Chewelah (7-17) 54-46 in Moses Lake. The Bulldogs went on a 20-4 run in the second quarter to take an 11-point halftime lead and never looked back. Gene Schatz had 19 points to lead Chewelah.

• Intermountain League: Max Salesky scored 10 of his 28 points at the free-throw line as Priest River (14-5, 6-1) scored 25 points in the fourth quarter to knock off Bonners Ferry (3-13, 2-5) 69-55 in PR.

Eric Holbrook scored eight points to go with 10 assists and eight rebounds for the Spartans, who can win the IML title with a win over Kellogg in the season finale Saturday. … Nick Serrano and Tyler Morgan each scored 10 points and the Kellogg Wildcats (14-4, 5-2) held off a late run to beat the host Timberlake Tigers (2-17, 0-8) 48-42 in Spirit Lake. Cooper Simpson’s 14 paced Timberlake.

• District 7 1B: Mason Van Lith scored 14 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help lead St. John-Endicott (11-11) to a 61-54 elimination victory over the Pomeroy Pirates (4-16) in Colfax. The Eagles trailed by five at halftime, but outscored Pomeroy 30-18 combined in the fourth quarter and in OT. … Blake Slocum scored 14 of his 24 points in the first half and Garfield-Palouse (11-11) went on a 21-9 run in the third quarter, beating the Touchet Indians (8-13) 72-57. Nathan Cocking added 17 points and seven boards for the Vikings, who advance to play St. John-Endicott at 6 p.m. Saturday in a loser-out game.

Girls basketball

• Bi-District 6/7 1A: Taylor Flemming notched 13 points and Lexie Zappone added 10 points as the Lakeside Eagles (16-8) extended their season with a 51-24 win against Cashmere (13-8), eliminating the Bulldogs from the postseason. The Eagles will play Caribou Trail champion Cascade at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Mt. Spokane. … Kara Staggs finished with 12 points and Tyler Schreckengost added 10 points as Okanogan handed Colville (17-6) a 44-40 defeat in Moses Lake. Ashley Knight scored a game-high 15 points for the Indians, who scored 23 points in the first half, but had just eight in the third. The loss eliminated the Indians, while Okanogan will play Northeast A champion Freeman at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

District 7 1B: Gretchen Van Lith tallied 21 points and St. John-Endicott (18-4) used a 38-25 edge in the second half to beat Tekoa-Oakesdale (9-13) 63-54 in a loser-out game in Colfax. Alexandria Overton scored 27 points in the loss for the Nighthawks. SJE will play Rosalia at 1 p.m. Saturday for the third and final ticket to the state tournament. … Briann Maley scored 24 points to go with nine rebounds and the Rosalia Spartans (15-8) outscored Garfield-Palouse (8-14) 20-7 in the third quarter to pull away, eliminating the Vikings 61-37.
