Gonzaga Prep girls to advance to state play-in game
Lindsey Stockton led all scorers with 22 points and Gonzaga Prep (19-4) bounced back from its loss against Lewis and Clark to beat Mead (14-9) 55-49 in the final game of the District 8 4A tournament Saturday at University.
The Bullpups led by three at the break but went on a 15-9 run in the third quarter to put the game out of reach, eliminating the Panthers. Tia Presley added 13 points and Taylor Largent 10 points for the Bullpups.
Jade Redmon led the Panthers with 18 points, while Kalee Junkermier added 11.
Gonzaga Prep will host Moses Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with the winner advancing to the state tournament.
Bi-District 6/7 1A
Freeman 50, Lakeside 36: Sierra McGarity scored 14 points to go with 10 rebounds, MacKenzie Taylor added 10 points and 12 boards and the Scotties (23-1) won the district championship, shooting 21 of 46 from the field to beat the Eagles (17-9) at Mead. The Scotties earned the No. 1 seed to state from the tournament with the win, while Lakeside advanced as the No. 2 seed.
Okanogan 43, Cascade 22: The Bulldogs (19-5) knocked off the Kodiaks (14-9) at Mead. The win advanced the Bulldogs to the state tournament as the No. 3 seed, eliminating Cascade.
District 7 2B
Reardan 47, Colfax 44: Kelsey Moos led all scorers with 13 points and Tori Wynecoop added six points and eight rebounds, hitting 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch, to lift the Indians (21-2) to the district championship over the Bulldogs (15-8) at Mt. Spokane. Amelia Bruya led Colfax with 11 points. The Indians and Bulldogs both qualified for the state tournament.
Northwest Christian 63, Kettle Falls 55: Bryanna Bailey poured in 20 points to go with 13 rebounds and the Crusaders (15-9) advanced to the state tournament for the first time in five years, eliminating the Bulldogs (15-9). Samantha Charlton and Nikka Yankus combined for 35 points for the Bulldogs, while Maria Guske had 16 points for NWC.
District 6 2B
Lake Roosevelt 65, Entiat 40: Dominique Pleasants notched 25 points and Roweena Antone added 10 points as the Raiders (16-8) earned the No. 3 seed to state, beating the Tigers (16-5) in Wenatchee. The Raiders outscored Entiat 29-13 in the second half to pull away.
District 7 1B
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 61, Columbia 43: The Warriors (21-2) defeated the Lions (23-2) to earn the district championship and the No. 1 seed to the state tournament in Deer Park. The Lions earned the No. 2 seed to state.
Odessa-Harrington 60, Selkirk 52: The Titans (14-10) defeated the Rangers (18-8) to earn the No. 3 seed to state. Selkirk also advanced to the state tournament as the No. 4 seed.
District 9 1B
Colton 56, Pomeroy 16: McKenzie Heaslet led the way with 12 points, Kaitlin Druffel chipped in eight points and the Wildcats (21-1) held the Pirates (18-4) to just 5-of-33 shooting, earning the district championship in Colfax. Both teams will advance to state.
St. John-Endicott 53, Rosalia 46: Alli Winters scored 15 of her 23 points in the first half and the Eagles (19-4) advanced to the state tournament, defeating the Spartans (15-9). SJE is the No. 3 seed to state.
