Day off beats laid off

Reading the letter (Dec. 29) from Jim Wavada, I found it hard to muster compassion for him. He has been forced to take another day off without pay.

How sad for state workers that they are taking off five unpaid days in order to balance the budget and keeping their jobs. Mr. Wavada, do you realize how lucky you are to have a job? Taking a few days off without pay throughout the year in order to stay employed is a small sacrifice to make.

Many people who have been laid off have been forced to take jobs at lower wages, if they can find a job. How would you feel if you were laid off from your current job and only able to secure a new job at half the wage you were previously making?

Regarding medical insurance, feel privileged you have that luxury. Have you ever tried to obtain private health insurance? Those premiums are unaffordable.

As for you and your co-workers who “might” face unemployment by the end of next year, I hope it doesn’t happen to you. I pray no one goes through what my family has for the last two years, it has been hell.
