Fresno St. beats UI; streak at 20
Defending Western Athletic Conference champion Fresno State ran its conference win streak to 20 games Monday night with a comeback 84-67 win over Idaho in the Cowan Spectrum.
Idaho led 52-51 30 minutes into the game when the Bulldogs (11-5, 2-0 WAC) went on an 18-0 run to take command.
Fresno, led by Jaleesa Ross, who made 8 of 15 3-pointers in a scoring a game-high 28 points, hit 18 of 34 3-pointers.
Idaho (8-6, 1-1) got 18 points from junior Keri Arendse and a seventh double-double of the season from Yinka Olorunnife (16 points, 10 rebounds). Derisa Taleni and Bianca Cheever scored 10 each for Idaho.
Coach Jon Newlee said he was pleased with the Vandals start, but “we got tired and our transition defense went bad.”
And that helped fuel the Bulldogs’ decisive surge.
