Transferred Freshman guard Gary Franklin is transferring to Baylor after starting 11 of California’s first 13 games this season. Baylor coach Scott Drew said Wednesday that the California native has enrolled in classes on the Waco campus. The 6-foot-2 guard will have three seasons of eligibility after sitting out the rest of this season and the 2011 fall semester. Franklin was averaging 8.2 points for California when he said that he was leaving last week.

Introduced San Diego State introduced Rocky Long as its new head football coach. Long’s promotion from defensive coordinator came after Brady Hoke was hired away by Michigan on Tuesday. Long inherits a team that enjoyed a quick turnaround under Hoke. The Aztecs were 9-4 in 2010, including a victory against Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl. Long, a three-year starter at quarterback for New Mexico State from 1969-71, compiled a 65-69 record and guided the Lobos to five bowl appearances in his final seven seasons.

Agreed LSU and football coach Les Miles have agreed in principle to a new contract that will run through the 2017 season. LSU athletic director Joe Alleva says Miles’ annual pay of a little more than $3.75 million will remain the same. Miles has won 62 games and five bowls including a 2007 national title in his first six years with the Tigers.

Scheduled Former NBA star Allen Iverson plans to have a lesion removed from his right leg in the United States and intends to rejoin his Turkish team in time for the playoffs. Gary Moore, Iverson’s longtime manager, said Iverson told him that he doesn’t plan to retire because of the painful condition. Moore said Iverson has a lesion that is pressing up against the bones of his leg and requires surgery in the U.S.

Passed Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko and his wife, Masha, both passed the citizenship tests and were sworn in as U.S. citizens Monday afternoon. Their two sons, both born in the U.S., now are citizens as well. He said their young daughter, adopted in Russia, still must deal with visa issues because she was born in Russia.
