Arc of Spokane – The Arc of Spokane – Advocacy and Family Support is in need of a library aide, to review its library and its organization, checking for inaccuracies. Other duties would include re-shelving books and updating the library content list. Volunteers are needed on a monthly basis. “Miss School, Miss Out” – Program assistant volunteers are needed for the attendance incentive program, based out of Shaw Middle School. Volunteers will support the program with Communities In Schools at multiple sites, helping set up and distribute prizes to students who achieve excellent attendance goals. Organizational skills and knowledge of Excel are required. Positions require a Washington State Patrol background check. AARP Tax-Aide – Volunteers are needed for free tax preparation services for middle and low income workers. Training is free and no prior experience or an accounting background is needed. American Red Cross – The American Red Cross, Inland Northwest Chapter, has volunteer opportunities available for its disaster action team. Team members provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, ensuring that those affected have basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. Licensed professional volunteers are needed in the mental health field, nursing, and disaster education. Team members are asked to be on call 24 hours a day for at least a one-week period at a time. SpokAnimal C.A.R.E. – Volunteers who are at least 15 years old are needed to help maintain a healthy and sanitary environment for SpokAnimal’s cats. Includes assisting in cleaning litter pans, thoroughly disinfecting cages, feeding and taking time to hold, brush and play with the cats. Spokane C.O.P.S. – Community volunteers are needed for assistance with crime-prevention. Volunteers will receive professional training by crime-prevention agencies, police officers and officers with the Department of Corrections. Spokane Valley Meals on Wheels – Volunteers are needed to deliver hot meals to elderly and disabled people in Spokane Valley. Volunteers will also need to check on the well-being of each person on their route. Volunteers may choose to drive a route any day, Monday through Friday, or drive as a substitute on flexible days. Meals will be picked up at 11 a.m. and delivered to approximately 15 people and delivery time is approximately 90 minutes. Volunteers are also needed to help prepare meals for elderly and disabled people. All skill levels are needed. Spokane Valley Partners – Volunteers for an administrative assistant to the program director to maintain the volunteer database; six-month commitment, up to 10 hours per week; assist in the recruitment and hourly tracking of volunteers involved in seasonal programs, food bank and clothing bank.
