Prescription fraud among reports

A report of prescription fraud was received at 4:15 p.m. on June 25. A fake prescription was filled at the Liberty Lake Safeway, and the case is under investigation, Liberty Lake police Chief Brian Asmus said.

A man who said he had no money for a taxi ride was arrested at the Liberty Lake Safeway at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday. A taxi driver reported that he had picked up a 30-year-old resident of Rochester, Wash., in downtown Spokane and given him a ride to Liberty Lake. The man allegedly got out of the taxi and ran inside the Safeway without paying. The driver followed the man inside and he ran through the aisles of the store, prompting employees to call police, Asmus said. When an officer arrived the man struggled with the officer before being arrested. He was charged with theft and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

On Monday two local businesses called police to report that fire extinguishers had been discharged, causing significant damage. A business on North Madson Road said that two extinguishers were removed from two trucks and emptied into the cab of one truck and into the exhaust pipe and gas tank of the other.

The second report came from the Meadowwood Technology Campus. Several fire extinguishers were taken from outside the building near the loading docks and their contents sprayed in the parking lot and on the building. A video surveillance at the location showed several juvenile males on BMX-style bikes causing the damage between 5 and 5:15 p.m. the evening before. The case is currently under investigation.
