Released Green Bay Packers cornerback Brandon Underwood was released Wednesday on a $1,000 signature bond after being accused of disorderly conduct against his wife. WLUK-TV reports Underwood appeared for an initial hearing to face the misdemeanor charge after police were called to his house in Green Bay, Wis., on June 16. He allegedly pushed his wife, Brandie Underwood, to the ground and ripped a necklace from her neck, according to the complaint. He is due back in court July 15.
Honored Announcer Jim Nantz will receive this year’s Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame for “longtime exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football.”
Sentenced ESPN analyst and former NHL forward Matthew Barnaby was ordered to complete 500 hours of community service to have charges dropped stemming from an argument he had with his estranged wife in May. Barnaby, 38, was accused of causing an estimated $300 in damage by kicking the garage door where his wife and two children live in Buffalo, N.Y., on May 13.
Fined Police say Minnesota Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley was ticketed for possessing marijuana and speeding in the Minneapolis suburb of Minnetonka last week. Capt. Scott Boerboom said an officer stopped Beasley around 3 a.m. on June 26 after clocking him going 84 mph in a 65 mph zone. The report says the officer found 16.2 grams, a petty misdemeanor that carries a fine of $128, under the front passenger seat of Beasley’s car.
Signed Stanford men’s basketball coach Johnny Dawkins signed a two-year contract extension that takes him through the 2015-16 season with the Cardinal.
Withdrawn The winner of The Players Championship last year, Tim Clark, has withdrawn from the British Open, the second straight major he is missing because of an elbow injury. He will be replaced at Royal St. George’s next week by Anthony Kim.
Died Australian road cyclist Carly Hibberd was killed after being hit by a car while training in Italy. Australia’s department of foreign affairs and trade said that the 26-year-old Hibberd died after she was struck by a car in Como in the northern part of Italy.
