I-90 could be slow this evening

Be prepared for slow traffic and backups on Interstate 90 in east Spokane later today. A major road repair project starts today at 7 p.m. between Havana and Altamont streets, and the freeway is being reduced to two construction lanes in each direction. In addition, seven on- and off-ramps will be closed. Overpass bridges at Altamont and Havana are being repaired and resurfaced. Drivers might want to consider alternate routes such as Sprague, Second and Third avenues. Transportation officials said late afternoon is likely to see the worst of the slowdowns on eastbound I-90. The project will last through Aug. 4.
