CV to cut pay of nonunion workers
The Central Valley School Board voted to cut the pay of nonrepresented employees Monday at its regular meeting.
The cuts match those made at the state level earlier this year when the state’s budget cut 3 percent of the allocation it sends to the district for administrator pay.
Employees in the cabinet administration of the district office will see a 3 percent pay cut next fall. Classified administrators and confidential staff will see a 1.9 percent cut in pay.
The district would need to negotiate with its unions to cut the pay of represented staff members.
FBLA kudos
• Over at East Valley High School, recent graduate Emmalee Ohlstrom placed second in the country in the Impromptu Speaking competition at the national FBLA conference.
Ohlstrom qualified for the competition after becoming the Washington state champion at the state conference. It was her second trip to nationals.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Emmalee’s effort and composure as she competed with the best and brightest Future Business Leaders from across the United States,” said adviser Bret Kiefer. “She represented herself, her family and East Valley High School in an exemplary fashion.”
Ohlstrom will attend Washington State University this fall, majoring in communications and public relations.
• The Freeman High School FBLA sent three of its members to the National Leadership Conference in Orlando last month.
To compete at the national level, students Danica Cramer, Josiah Lara and Cody Dickinson had to finish first or second in the state championships.
The team of Cramer and Lara completed a home-site production test and a one-hour objective test in the Desktop Publishing event. Dickinson completed two tests at the competition, one in Computer Problem Solving and one in Open Source/Google Applications.
“All three of these FBLA members competed admirably and represented Freeman very well,” said Scott Moore, adviser for the group.
