In brief: Greenacres men sweep burger contest at Ron’s

SPOKANE VALLEY – Matthew Rigby, of Greenacres, won the burger-eating contest at Ron’s Drive Inn last Saturday. He ate eight burgers in five minutes and received the $200 prize for his effort. Kenny Smith, of Greenacres, was awarded second place, and James Martin, also of Greenacres, received third place.

The burger eating contest and hot rod show were a fundraiser for Valley Meals on Wheels.

Ken Gartz received a Best of Show owner’s choice award for his red 1965 Ford Mustang. Gartz is a volunteer driver for Valley Meals on Wheels.

Contestants were given a limited-edition T-shirt.

Register now for fall/spring youth soccer

SPOKANE VALLEY – Registration is open for the Spokane Valley Youth Soccer Association’s fall/spring 2011-’12 season.

The league is for ages 4 to 14.

Cost is $48 for U5 and U6 players and $58 for U7 and older players. To register visit www.vysoccer.org.
