Injured Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane has a fractured left wrist and will need six to eight weeks to recover. The team disclosed the injury Friday, saying it was discovered recently during his offseason training. Blackhawks team Dr. Michael Terry said Kane will have surgery on Tuesday to repair a scaphoid fracture. Both Terry and Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said Kane is expected to make a full recovery in time for training camp.
Signed The New Jersey Devils signed Swedish defenseman Adam Larsson, the No. 4 pick in last month’s NHL draft, to a three-year, entry-level contract.
• New Jersey Nets guard Sasha Vujacic signed with a Turkish team for next season. Anadolu Efes said the 27-year old Slovenian guard agreed to a one-year deal with an optional second year. It did not say whether Vujacic has an option to return to New Jersey if the NBA lockout is lifted.
• The Tulsa Shock signed former WNBA finals Most Valuable Player Betty Lennox, hoping she can provide leadership to the struggling, young team. In 2004, Lennox led the Seattle Storm to the WNBA championship.
Awarded UCLA’s Trevor Bauer won the Golden Spikes Award as the top amateur baseball player. Bauer was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the third pick of the amateur draft after going 13-2 with a 1.25 ERA.
Dismissed Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said offensive tackle Anthony Oden, the younger brother of the NBA’s Greg Oden, has been dismissed from the football team after his second arrest for driving while intoxicated in the last year. Oden, who was listed as a possible starting tackle on the Razorbacks’ spring depth chart, was arrested July 9 by Fayetteville police.
Treated Former top-20 tennis player Alisa Kleybanova is receiving treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer. In a posting on the WTA’s website, Kleybanova, 22, said there’s a chance she’ll be able to play again.
Cleared World steeplechase champion Marta Dominguez said she will return to competition after being cleared of doping charges by a Spanish court earlier this week. Dominguez was accused of providing a fellow athlete with a banned performance- enhancing substance.
