Sunday Locals: Carroll College signs Mead’s Junkermier

Mead graduate Kalee Junkermier will attend Carroll College and play for the Saints next season, head coach Rachelle Sayers announced.

Junkermier, a 5-foot-10 forward, was a two-year starter for Mead and averaged 10 points and eight rebounds per game last season.

She plans to major in physical therapy or biology.

Baseball

Cody Reeves has been hired as infield coach at Whitworth University.

Reeves just completed his first season as infield coach at Western Oregon University, an NCAA Division II school.

Reeves played for WOU the previous two seasons. He was All-GNAC honorable mention at first base after he hit .277 with five home runs, 19 RBIs and a .518 slugging percentage.

Reeves also spent two seasons at Spokane Falls CC. In his second season with the Sasquatch, Reeves hit .423 and tied the school’s single-season hits record with 71.

Reeves graduated from Lakeside (Wash.) High in 2006. He was an all-state selection as a senior.

Tennis

University of Idaho men’s coach Jeff Beaman announced the addition of recruit Dmitri Perevoshchikov of Russia, whose sister, Maria, played tennis for the Vandals from 2009-10.

Beaman, Idaho’s director of tennis, also announced the hiring of Daniel Pollock to be the Vandals’ new women’s coach. Pollock was formerly Beaman’s assistant with the men’s team.

Track and field

Zoe Moller, a State 2A long and triple jump champion for Sehome High in Bellingham, and Lauran Johnson, a California junior college state medalist in the long, triple and high jumps, signed letters of intent to compete for Washington State University, head coach Rick Sloan announced.

• Hurdler and long sprinter Bethany Stuffle of Lewiston signed a letter of intent to compete at Lewis-Clark State, Warriors coach Mike Collins announced.

George Mathews of Hayden Lake, Idaho, placed fourth in the men’s 65-69 5-kilomer shot put (40 feet) at the World Masters Athletics Cham- pionships at Sacramento, Calif., on Wednesday.

Triathlon

Annie Warner of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., finished in third place at the 5150 Boulder Peak (Colo.) Triathlon, which ended last Sunday.

Warner moved up to fourth place on the HY-VEE 5150 Series pro female rankings. Warner has placed in the top three in five races this season.
