In brief: Millwood wading pool opens, funds sought

MILLWOOD – The Millwood City Park wading pool is now open to the community. The pool is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will close at 2 p.m. for a lunch break and open again at 2:30. If staffing is unavailable, the pool will close without prior notice.

Valley celebrates cattle truck law

SPOKANE VALLEY – The city of Spokane Valley is celebrating the passage of a new law that requires cattle trucks weighing more than 40,000 pounds to stop at the port of entry, by hosting a gathering from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place. The city pushed for the new law, spurred on by complaints by residents that the heavily loaded cattle trucks were driving in residential areas to avoid the Stateline port of entry.

The Spokane Valley legislators who helped get the law passed have been invited to attend the celebration, including state Sen. Jeff Baxter and state Reps. Matt Shea and Larry Crouse.

Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by calling Carolbelle Branch at 720-5411.
