Suspect indicted in deadly standoff
TWIN FALLS, Idaho – An Idaho grand jury indicted a 26-year-old Nevada man on Thursday on a first-degree murder charge and 11 other felonies in connection with a hotel standoff that left a police officer injured and a bystander dead.
The Times-News reports Clark Cleveland, of Spring Creek, Nev., was indicted in Idaho’s 5th District Court on charges including murder, second-degree kidnapping, aggravated battery on an officer with a deadly weapon, and six counts of aggravated assault on an officer with a deadly weapon.
Cleveland appeared at a hearing at which the court entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf. A Jan. 17 trial date was set.
Prosecutors say Cleveland shot Idaho State Police Trooper Nicholas Walker in the leg after fleeing from a July 15 traffic stop and then later took a woman hostage during the standoff with authorities at a Hampton Inn in Twin Falls.
A bystander, 43-year-old Tracy Ivie, of Lindon, Utah, was a guest at the hotel and was killed during the crisis.
