Hired A person familiar with the negotiations tells the AP the Florida Panthers have hired Kevin Dineen to take over as coach. The Panthers say they will introduce their next coach today. Dineen spent parts of 19 seasons in the NHL, scoring 355 goals.
Surgery Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has undergone surgery in Minneapolis to address a digestive disorder. Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White told reporters that Lesnar’s surgery was successful and that doctors removed part of his colon.

Retired Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes announced his retirement, ending the trophy-laden career of a famously low-key player widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted of his generation. Scholes, 36, made 676 appearances for United, a team that has dominated English soccer for the past two decades.
Banned The World Anti-Doping Agency has suspended accreditation of the laboratory that accused Diana Taurasi of using a banned substance then later retracted the positive test results. The Turkish Doping Control Center received a ban of undetermined length.
Decided Cyclist Alberto Contador is free to defend his Tour de France title, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport decided to hear his doping case after the race ends. The court said it would hear the case from Aug. 1-3, more than a week after the Tour finishes in Paris on July 24.
