Stolen trailer found before it was missed

Recently Liberty Lake police recovered a stolen travel trailer that was gone for up to two weeks before Freedom RV knew it was missing. It had been taken in by the dealership as a trade-in, said Liberty Lake police Chief Brian Asmus.

BNSF Railway employees had noticed the trailer parked on railroad property near Upriver Drive for several days, Asmus said. One day they saw a man driving away from the trailer and spoke to him. He claimed he had permission to be on the property, but didn’t own the trailer. “He said he was borrowing it from Freedom RV,” Asmus said.

His claim was apparently news to the business. The trailer, valued at about $10,000, was returned to the dealership. Police arrested Robert K. Reeder, 43, of Spokane Valley, on a felony charge of first-degree possession of stolen property.

Two arrests in Liberty Lake during the week of May 16-23 were for domestic violence assault. The first call was received at 11 a.m. on May 16 in the 25000 block of Hawkstone Loop. An investigation determined that a man had hit and choked his girlfriend, then hit himself in the head with a towel rack so it would look like he was the one assaulted, Asmus said.

The second domestic violence call came in at 6:50 p.m. on May 17. The caller reported that a car was pulled off on the side of Interstate 90 near milepost 294 and that the driver was repeatedly punching the passenger. An officer responded and found the passenger walking along the freeway. The officer called the driver, who returned to the scene, Asmus said. She was arrested for fourth-degree domestic violence assault.

An officer was on patrol in the area of Henry Road and Sprague at 6:30 p.m. on May 17 when he spotted a motorcycle going 74 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone and popping “wheelies,” Asmus said. The officer gave chase briefly, but had to break off the pursuit when the motorcycle went off road.

The officer got a call later from a person who wanted to know why police were chasing a motorcycle earlier and who also insisted that the rider wasn’t doing anything dangerous. “Based on the conversation we think it was the dad of the person we were chasing,” Asmus said. “He wasn’t very cooperative.”

Later that same day Liberty Lake officers were called at 10:50 p.m. to help with a chase that started in Idaho. Post Falls police were chasing a vehicle that reportedly was involved in a burglary and theft case. The chase ended in the 6300 block of north Chase Road when the suspected thieves got stuck. Liberty Lake officers handled the arrests so the duo could be extradited to Idaho.

Michael R. Dyczok, 35, was arrested for attempting to elude a police vehicle and possession of stolen property. Michael Dyczok, 65, was charged with possession of stolen property. Both are residents of Spokane.
