Associated Press

WENATCHEE – An East Wenatchee man who stopped to help a driver died Friday from injuries suffered during an assault.

Jose Guadalupe Garcia, 53, stopped to help a driver of a stalled van on Thursday.

Police said that when Garcia approached the van, the driver reached out as if to shake his hand, but instead punched him. Garcia’s body hit the pavement and his skull cracked from the impact.

A police officer responded to the scene and the van’s driver assaulted him as well, but the officer was able to subdue the man with a Taser.

The 50-year-old driver was arrested and is being held on suspicion of first-degree assault.
