Dawn fire damages Spokane House Hotel

A fire in a laundry and utility area forced the evacuation and closure of the Spokane House Hotel this morning. The fire, reported about 5:40 a.m., broke out in a first-floor laundry area below the parking lot and lobby level. Thirty-four firefighters responded to the hotel at 4301 W. Sunset Blvd. and contained the fire within 20 minutes, fire officials said. Guests and occupants were evacuated. No injuries were reported. The hotel was helping make arrangements for displaced occupants. The building could not be occupied after the fire, officials said. Substantial damage was caused to the area where the fire started, including damage to the five-story building’s electrical system, officials said. Damage was estimated at $45,000. The cause was under investigation.
