In brief: Woman dragged during car theft

A woman was dragged a short distance by her car on Sunday as it was being stolen from her in Wallace, the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Ione L. Halkowiez, of Wallace, suffered minor injuries, and law enforcement officers eventually arrested two people in the woman’s stolen Kia Spectra.

Booked into Shoshone County Jail were Brett Bosh, 28, and Theresa Bosh, 25, both of North Dakota.

Both were being held for grand theft, burglary and resisting and obstructing officers. Brett Bosh was also booked for driving under the influence and felony eluding of officers.

Sheriff’s deputies were initially called to 100 Front Street shortly before 3 p.m. to a vehicle theft in progress. Witnesses reported that Halkowiez had been dragged a short distance while trying to stop the thieves.

Trooper remains hospitalized

A Washington State Patrol trooper injured Sunday when a semitruck slammed into his stopped patrol car was reported in satisfactory condition on Monday at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Dean T. Burt, 53, was airlifted to Sacred Heart following the crash on U.S. Highway 395 three miles south of Ritzville.

Troopers identified the semi driver as James A. Helms, 54, of Phoenix.

Burt was making a stop on the shoulder with his emergency lights flashing.
