In brief: Monday rainfall sets local record

Spokane set a daily rainfall record Monday with 0.49 inches of rain measured at Spokane International Airport.

That eclipsed the previous daily record of 0.45 inches set in 1916. Records have been kept in Spokane since 1881.

Other areas of the region saw about a half-inch of rain as well.

More rain is on the way for the rest of the week. Increasing clouds are forecast for today.

Man gets 7 years prison on gun charge

A convicted killer arrested in a methamphetamine investigation was sentenced to seven years in federal prison Monday for a gun charge.

Christopher Clay Gober, 32, was on probation when police searched his hotel room in Coeur d’Alene last April, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court.

Investigators say they found used syringes, two meth pipes and ammunition. In his car, they found a gun and six rounds of ammunition.

Gober is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition because of felony convictions that include manslaughter.

In 1998, he was sentenced to nine years in prison for shooting a Spokane Valley man to death in what Gober said was self-defense. Gober originally was charged with first-degree murder for the death of Jeremy Moore, 20, who died on Dec. 23, 1997.

Grandfather accused of making threats

Police say a Spokane Valley man used too much force to discourage another man from seeing his granddaughter.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team on Monday raided the home of Stanley L. Bloyed, 65, seeking evidence related to a March 3 incident involving threats and a firearm.

Bloyed is accused of going to a home in the 2500 block of South Rees Lane armed with a pistol to persuade the resident there to quit seeing his granddaughter. The resident slammed the door, but Bloyed is accused of kicking in a lower panel and shouting threats.

He was booked on charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree assault and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

Detectives took a .32-caliber revolver and ammunition from his home. Bloyed has a felony criminal record and was not legally allowed to possess a firearm or ammunition, said Sgt. Dave Reagan in a news release.
