Sasquatch qualify for NWAACC softball tournament
The streak is alive!
Moriah Beeler smacked a two-run double in the top of the third inning and Stephanie Chrystal made it stand up as the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (20-23) edged the Columbia Basin Hawks (23-22) 2-1 Tuesday in Pasco in a play-in game for the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges championship softball tournament.
The victory breaks a tie for fourth place and sends the Sasquatch to the tournament for the 27th straight season.
The Sasquatch open tournament play in Portland on Friday at 11:30 a.m. against Mt. Hood.
Baseball
Taylor Ard hit a pair of solo home runs and the Washington State Cougars (22-25) cruised to an 11-5 victory over the Portland Pilots (18-29) to gain a split of their nonconference doubleheader in Pullman.
Portland scored five runs in the final two innings to rally for a 10-8 win in the opener.
• Brando Tessar and Kellen Moen combined on a three-hitter and the Oregon Ducks (27-24-1) breezed to a 6-0 win over the Gonzaga Bulldogs (29-15-1) in nonconference play in Eugene, Ore.
Billy Moon, Maxx Garrett and Steven Halcomb had hits for GU.
