In brief: Stehekin sets record for cold

From Staff Reports

Stehekin, at the top of Lake Chelan in the North Cascades, set a record-cold temperature Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The high temperature in the 24-hour period ending at 9 a.m. Saturday was 52 degrees. Previously, the record for that period was a high of 55 degrees, set in 1951. Records have been kept for Stehekin since 1906.

In the Inland Northwest, the weather service is calling for partly sunny conditions today, with a high near 68 and scattered showers. The low tonight should reach 41.

The outlook for Memorial Day is a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. The high temperature should reach 66, with partly sunny conditions.

The following offices and services will be affected by the Memorial Day holiday Monday.

• City, county, state and federal offices will be closed.

• Post offices will be closed.

• State liquor stores will be closed in Idaho, but most will be open in Washington.

• Most banks will be closed.

• Area public schools and colleges will be closed.

• Parking meters don’t have to plugged Monday.

Temporary ramp links docks, shore

A dock-building company has installed a temporary ramp to the Harrison, Idaho, shoreline from county docks so that Memorial Day weekend festivities won’t be affected by high water on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

The permanent ramps are under several feet of water.

Fred Johnson, owner of Gateway Marina in Harrison, said in a news release that a couple of businesses had booked live music for the weekend, anticipating increased tourism.

“We want boaters to know that they can come to Harrison and get to shore without having to bring their wet suits or waders,” he said.

Harrison Dock Builders installed the temporary ramp.

The company has operations near Harrison, as well as in Sagle and Priest River, Idaho, and Florence, Ore.
