College roundup: GU women rout Corban

Katelan Redmon scored 16 points and Stephanie Golden added 12 as the Gonzaga women’s basketball team cruised to an 83-46 exhibition basketball win over visiting Corban Saturday in front of 3,433 fans at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Redmon scored all of her points in the first half. She was 5 of 8 from the floor, including 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.

All 17 players saw action for Gonzaga and 13 scored.

The Bulldogs open regular-season play Friday at home against Hoftra. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.

Volleyball

College of Southern Idaho, which twice lost to North Idaho College during the regular season, turned the tables with a three-game sweep over the Cardinals to capture the Region 18 Tournament title at Christianson Gym.

Third-seeded CSI, led by 34 combined kills from Taila Gnass, Keani Passi and Beth Carey, had a .381 hitting percentage. Yang Yang and Janele Vogt each had 14 kills for top-seeded NIC, which had 20 attack errors and a .177 percentage. Yang and Vogt were selected to the Region 18 All-Tournament team.

Both teams had qualified for the NJCAA Tournament by winning semifinal matches Friday. The national tournament is Nov. 17-19 in West Plains, Mo.

• Gabby Jolly had a match-high 11 kills to lead Saint Mary’s (13-12, 7-6) to a sweep of host Gonzaga in West Coast Conference action at the Martin Centre. Game scores were 25-15, 25-12, 26-24.

Kylie Edinger had seven kills and Denise Van Mortel passed out 20 assists for the Bulldogs (7-17, 1-12).

• Northern Colorado (17-8, 10-3) swept Eastern Washington in a Big Sky Conference match in Greeley, Colo.

Game scores were 25-17, 25-12, 25-23.

Shelby Puckett had 11 kills and Cora Kellerman added nine to lead the Eagles.

Eastern Washington (13-12, 9-5) hosts Portland State on Saturday.

• Alicio Milo had 28 kills and 17 digs and Allison Walker added 23 kills and 11 digs as Idaho beat Utah State (11-15, 6-6) 24-26, 25-19, 24-26, 27-25, 15-8 in a Western Athletic Conference game in Logan, Utah.

Jennifer Feicht handed out a match-high 60 assists for the Vandals (14-11, 8-4).

• Alex Jupiter had 13 kills to lead No. 4 USC (20-4, 15-2) to a 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 Pac-12 Conference win over Washington (18-6, 10-6) in Los Angeles.

Men’s basketball

Stephen Madison scored 23 points to go along with eight rebounds and the Idaho Vandals rolled to a 114-73 exhibition victory over Willamette at Memorial Gym in Moscow, Idaho.

Deremy Geiger and Dazmond Starke added 14 points apiece for Idaho.

The Vandals open regular-season play at 2 p.m. Saturday against Long Beach State in Long Beach, Calif.

Men’s soccer

Whitworth moved into a tie with Pacific Lutheran in the Northwest Conference standings with a 3-1 win over Whitman in Spokane.

Cameron Bushey, Kekoa Mountcastle and J.T. Meyer scored goals for the Pirates (14-3-1, 12-2).

• Columbia Basin (6-7-2, 6-6-1) scored twice late in the second half and blanked Community Colleges of Spokane (5-9-6, 5-6-2) 2-0 in an NWAACC regular-season finale at Spokane Falls Community College.

Women’s soccer

Andrea Roeder scored in the 68th minute to give Columbia Basin a 2-1 win over Community Colleges of Spokane in an NWAACC match at SFCC.

• Portland (9-9-1, 4-4-0 WCC) scored a 3-0 win over visiting Gonzaga (7-10-2, 0-6-2).

Wrestling

Highline won six of the 10 matches and edged North Idaho 20-17 at NIC.

Mike Carreon (133 pounds), Jarrett Morrill (141), Ryan Zumwalt (157) and Matthew Foxworthy (285) won their matches for the Cardinals.

Cross country

Alaska Anchorage won the men’s and women’s team titles in the NCAA Division II West Regional championships at Plantes Ferry Park.

The NCAA Division II national championships will be held at the same site on Nov. 19.
