Religion Notebook: Manito Methodist marks Advent start

Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., will present “Light Up the Tree” on Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. with Advent crafts and refreshments. Children will be invited to make Advent lanterns. At 6 p.m. there will be a children’s parade of lanterns which will move the crowd outside to gather around the tree.

The church choir will lead everyone in Christmas carols, and the tree will be lit at 6:30 p.m.

Stories from the Holy Land

Country Homes Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 8415 N. Wall St., will present “Jerusalem Peacemakers, Stories of Hope from the Holy Land” on Monday at 7 p.m.

The event will feature Rabbi Eliyahu McLean and Sheikh Ghassan Manasra, Jewish and Muslim speakers from the Holy Land.

The presentation includes a talk, photos and video about grass-roots Arab-Jewish peace efforts.

Donations will be accepted.

Advent soup supper devotionals

Moran United Methodist Church, 3601 E. 65th Ave., will hold Advent soup suppers and devotionals Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 8 p.m. through Dec. 21.

The series “The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem” will be presented by Rev. Barbara Caviezel.
