Bug-a-boos offers new take on kids’ items
Another children’s reclothier and secondhand furniture and accessory shop recently opened in Spokane Valley, with the owner hoping to capture attention with a twist on resale as well as an ever-changing merchandise.
Bug-a-boos Resale is a children’s consignment store that provides buyers gently used merchandise at discounted prices compared to new, while offering resellers 50 percent of sale prices. Similar stores in the area offer to purchase items from individuals before adding to their inventory.
“We’re the only consignment shop in the area for children’s items and I offer a high percentage to sellers,” said owner Angie Fox, who purposely located her store between two other nearby children’s resale stores. “It’s kind of like car lots … and people can come shopping and know we all have different inventory.”
Fox opened in June in a strip mall along Sprague Avenue just east of Evergreen Road after gathering inventory for about a year. Her 2,000-square-foot shop is set back a bit with a bright lime green, attention-grabbing sign. The store is sectioned in two rooms, with clothes, books and other material items in front, while furniture and large toys occupy the back room. She sells some new items, including scrapbook accessories, homemade quilts and tutus.
“I’ve shopped these stores and I really thought there was a demand for another one,” said Fox, a single mother of a toddler. “I think the biggest thing that helped me with this store is being a mom.”
Those interested in consigning items may drop off merchandise during store hours. Fox will review, price and stock accepted items for 90 days, with reduced prices after 30 days. Unsold items are returned to original owners or donated to charity.
“My clothes have to be in like-new condition,” she says of the items she accepts for consignment. “It’s in and out – it’s constantly changing, so every time you come in here it’s different stuff.”
