In brief: Ron’s hosting coloring contest

SPOKANE VALLEY – To celebrate Halloween, Ron’s Drive Inn, 12502 E. Sprague Ave., will have a coloring contest for children, ages 3 to 10.

Contestants will receive a small ice cream for entering the contest. Entries will be judged on Halloween and the first-prize artist will receive a $50 Ron’s Drive Inn gift card. Second prize is a $25 gift card, and third prize is a $10 gift card.

Winning entries will be on display in Ron’s during November.

CVHS hosting candidates debate

VERADALE – Central Valley High School government classes are hosting a candidate debate called “Rally in the Valley” from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the school, 821 S. Sullivan Road.

Candidates for Spokane Valley City Council, Liberty Lake Mayor, Liberty Lake City Council and State Senate District 4 have been invited to attend. People may submit questions in advance by emailing them to askthequestions@ cvsd.org.

Baby-sitting classes offered

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Spokane Valley Park and Recreation Department will offer baby-sitter training classes for ages 11 to 15, to give them the skills they’ll need for caring for children and infants, applying for baby-sitting jobs, and making the right decisions.

The daylong courses will be held this Thursday, Jan. 21 and March 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the CenterPlace Regional Event Center, 2426 N. Discovery Place.

Cost is $85 per person. A sack lunch is suggested.

Dentist offering cash for candy

LIBERTY LAKE – Children will have another opportunity this Halloween to earn cash for their trick-or-treating efforts at the KiDDS Dental fourth annual Great Candy Buy Back at Dr. Jared Evans’ office, 1327 N. Stanford Lane, Suite B, on Nov. 1, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Trick-or-treaters will receive $1 per pound for their unopened Halloween candy. The candy collected will be shipped to troops overseas in holiday care packages, as part of Operation Gratitude.
