Gymnastics: Kohei Uchimura of Japan won another gold medal, taking the title on floor exercise today at the men’s world championships in Tokyo.

Uchimura finished with 15.633 points, edging Zou Kai of China, the Beijing Olympic and 2009 world floor champion. Diego Hypolito of Brazil and Alexander Shatilov of Israel tied for third.

It is the second gold medal in about 18 hours for Uchimura, who on Friday night became the first man in history to win three all-around titles.

Uchimura will compete in the pommel horse and still rings finals later today, and the parallel bars and high bar finals on Sunday.

Talks on HGH testing full of confusion

Football: Two key congressman emerged from an hour-long meeting with the NFL and players union and announced a deal to begin blood-testing players for human growth hormone. Minutes later, union officials would commit only to testing when a fair and safe system is in place – what they’ve been saying all along.

After Friday’s high-profile mix of sports and politics, HGH testing in pro football didn’t seem closer to reality.

“We’re not guaranteeing any outcomes except there was an agreement to begin testing immediately,” Rep. Darrell Issa, a California Republican told reporters after the meeting. “The other aspects of what you do with the tests will be resolved over the next many weeks, and we’ve agreed on a bipartisan basis to have the committee play a role if necessary” to bring the sides together again.

Simpson stays near lead at Sea Island

Golf: Webb Simpson, in a chase to try to win the PGA Tour money title, made a pair of late birdies for a 3-under-par 67 at the McGladrey Classic at Sea Island in St. Simons Island, Ga.

That left him two shots behind Billy Horschel, who picked up four shots over his last four holes on the Seaside course for a 64.

After finishing his second round, Simpson said he would play the PGA Tour’s final tournament next week at Disney in his bid to capture the money title.

Spokane’s Alex Prugh shot a 71 and missed the cut by two strokes.

Americans shine in Malaysia: Americans Stacy Lewis and Brittany Lang shared the lead after the second round of an LPGA event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Lewis shot a 6-under 65 and Lang finished with a 67 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

Lewis dropped two strokes at the par-4 ninth, but made eight birdies for a 9-under 133 total.

Wendy Ward (Edwall, Wash.) shot 68 for a two-round total of 145.

Couples, Lowery share lead: Fred Couples shot a 7-under 65 to take a share of the first-round lead with Steve Lowery at the Champions Tour’s AT&T Championship in San Antonio.

Hal Sutton and Nick Price were a stroke behind, and Tommy Armour III and Chien Soon Lu shot 67s.

Edwards rallies for Nationwide victory

Auto racing: Sprint Cup points leader Carl Edwards moved in front on a late restart and held off Kyle Busch on the final lap to win his eighth Nationwide race of the season.

Running 27th at one point, Edwards steadily moved up during the race and took the lead for the first time with five laps left.

Edwards will try and make it a clean sweep at Charlotte – and extend his one-point lead in the Chase for the championship standings – when he starts third in tonight’s Bank of America 500.

Franchitti, Power unimpressive in qualifying: IndyCar series title contenders Dario Franchitti and Will Power will start on the same row, well back in the field for the season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Franchitti, who holds an 18-point lead over Power in the season standings, was 18th during qualifying around the 1.5-mile oval at LVMS. He’ll be on the outside of Power for Sunday’s Las Vegas Indy 300 after the Australian turned a fast lap of 220.524 mph.

Tony Kanaan will lead the 34-car field after posting a speed of 222.078 mph.

Skinner, Ward power Hurricanes’ victory

NHL: Jeff Skinner scored a power-play goal with 1:24 left in the third period and Cam Ward made 39 saves in leading the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres at Buffalo, N.Y.

Brandon Sutter and Tim Brent each scored short-handed goals, while Jay Harrison also scored for the Hurricanes.

• Hiller looks like old self, blanks Sharks: Jonas Hiller made 31 saves in his 12th career shutout, Maxime Macenauer scored his first NHL goal, and Anaheim beat San Jose 1-0 at Anaheim, Calif.

Hiller is finally healthy after an apparent case of vertigo ruined last season. He was back in All-Star form in his first home start in nearly nine months, stopping 11 shots in the final period.

Visiting Dynamo shuts out Timbers

Miscellany: Andre Hainault and Danny Cruz scored goals and the Houston Dynamo defeated the Portland Timbers 2-0 in Portland.

San Jose State edges Hawaii: Chandler Jones caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Matt Faulkner with 36 seconds remaining, and San Jose State (3-4, 2-1 WAC) beat Hawaii (3-3, 1-1 WAC) 28-27 at San Jose, Calif., in a wild game that included 12 turnovers.
