WWII landing craft sinks

Mitigating the damage: Seattle Fire Department personnel deploy a containment boom at the site of a sunken vessel Friday in the Puget Sound off Seattle. The Coast Guard said Friday evening that a “very small part” of a diesel fuel and oil spill from the 73-foot World War II-era landing craft being used as a workboat had reached a Seattle beach. Workers arriving Friday saw it go down at about 7:30 a.m. The vessel reportedly had 300 gallons of diesel and 30 gallons of motor oil on board. It wasn’t clear how much had leaked. (Associated Press)
