• Richard Rush, 60,

incumbent councilman

Education: Graduated from Tuskegee (Ala.) High School, 1969. Bachelor’s degree in sociology from Auburn University, 1973. Earned master of business administration degree from Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, 1986.

Career: Property manager.

Political experience: Elected to Spokane City Council, 2007.

Family: Married. Has two school-age children.

• Mike Allen, 44, president

of marketing company

Education: Graduated from Omak High School, 1985. Earned bachelor’s in finance from Eastern Washington University, 2000. Earned master of business administration degree from EWU in 2001.

Career: President of Madkat, which publishes the Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Home Field Guide. Former associate athletic director at EWU. Former owner of Ames Brothers Coffee in Wenatchee.

Political: Appointed to Spokane City Council in late 2007. Lost bid to retain seat in 2009.

Family: Married. Has two school-age daughters.
