Gonzaga Prep rallies past North Central in volleyball

Lindsay Stockton accounted for 23 kills Tuesday as Gonzaga Prep outlasted visiting North Central 3-1 in Greater Spokane League volleyball.

Bianna Nikdel added 34 assists and Karly Hamad had 12 digs for the Bullpups (6-2), who solidified their positions at third place in the GSL and No. 2 among 4A schools. G-Prep lost the first game 25-19, squeaked by 27-25 and 25-23, then pulled away 25-16 in the clincher.

G-Prep also gets the last stab at first-place Mead in league play. The Panthers travel to G-Prep on Thursday.

Sam Hill had 13 kills, 14 digs and two blocks for the Indians (4-4).

• Also in the GSL, Dana Norris had a match-high eight kills and Sierra Crook added four aces to guide Mead (8-0) to a sweep at Ferris (0-8). Mead clinched at least a tie for the GSL title. … Kennadie Clute finished with 10 kills, seven digs and two aces as second-place Mt. Spokane (7-1) swept host Lewis and Clark (2-6). … Freshman Sasha Montgomery had 12 kills and Mariah Cunningham added seven kills and three blocks to lead Central Valley (5-3) to a sweep over visiting Shadle Park. Darby Santos led the Highlanders (3-5) with 11 kills. … Kayleigh Valley had a match-high 17 kills and Kylie Collins totaled 22 assists to help University (4-4) to a sweep over visiting Rogers. The Titans won the third game 25-22 after trailing 21-16. Sydney Roberts led the Pirates (1-7) with 20 assists and two aces.

• Jenny Nakata had 19 kills and April Oviatt added 25 digs as Pullman (9-2) wrapped up at least a tie for the Great Northern League title with a 3-1 win at Clarkston (7-3). Camille Davis added 52 assists and four aces for the Greyhounds, whose lone remaining league match is against Medical Lake (0-10). … Latasha and Sequoia Lofton combined for 31 kills to power West Valley (7-3) to a 3-1 win at East Valley (3-8) that tied the Eagles for second place. Aaliyah Ashley-Meek added 37 assists and four aces for the winners. EV’s Erin Wallman had 11 kills and four aces. … Senior Chaz Diomede had 16 digs and two aces, and senior Katie Schueman added 10 kills as Cheney (6-4) swept visiting Medical Lake on Senior Night.

• Junior Joellee Buckner totaled 11 kills and five aces as Colville (25-1, 9-0) clinched the Northeast A League title with a sweep over visiting Freeman (7-2 NEA).

Cross country

Alex Kimsey (15 minutes, 6.45 seconds) broke from the pack after the first mile and guided a 1-3-4 Ferris finish as the host Saxons (4-5) completed their GSL season with a 25-32 win over Gonzaga Prep (1-8) at Comstock Park. G-Prep (5-4) took the top seven spots in the girls race, led by Taylor Cherry’s 19:02.35, for a 15-50 win over the Saxons (1-8).

Girls soccer

Junior Kaitlin Palanuik scored her first two goals of the season, the second coming at 60 minutes after West Valley tied the match, and East Valley (9-6, 8-3) edged the visiting Eagles 2-1 in the GNL. EV’s Caitlin MacFarlane fended off three late shots by the Eagles (9-4, 6-4). … Also in the league, Bre Daugherty had one goal and two assists, and Diana DeWald, moved up to midfield because of injuries, scored twice in the second half to guide first-place Pullman (11-4, 9-2) to a 6-0 win at Clarkston (3-8, 3-7). Dakota Wickard had her ninth shutout of the season. … Jacqueline Hamby scored the lone goal of the first half, and Katy McNair began the second-half scoring by heading in Monica Hoblin’s crossing pass as Cheney (8-5, 8-2) stayed on Pullman’s heels with a 4-0 win over visiting Medical Lake (0-12, 0-10).

Slowpitch softball

Alyssa Hall and Karly Schuh both finished 3 for 4 to lead host University (16-1) to a 10-5 win over Lewis and Clark (8-10) in a GSL semifinal. Senior Sandra Cleveland earned the win for the Titans. U-Hi will host the title game at 4 p.m. Thursday against Central Valley (14-3), which rolled to a 10-2 home win over North Central (12-6). The Bears put their game out of reach with six consecutive two-out singles during a six-run fifth. Taylor Wayman, Carissa Sdao, McKenize Shea and Hailey Holley were a combined 10 for 15 with six runs batted in.
