Post Falls boys open state play with victory

Kyler Floch’s goal, assisted by Nathan White, gave Post Falls a 1-0 win over Centennial (8-5-5) during an opener of the Idaho 5A State boys soccer tournament at Eagle High School.

The Trojans (17-0-2) will meet Boise at 1 p.m. today in a semifinal at Eagle High.

Centennial will meet Eagle in a loser-out match.

Also at the tournament, Mountain View of Meridian edged Lake City 1-0 at Rocky Mountain High in Meridian.

The Timberwolves (9-7-1) will play Skyline at 8 a.m. today at Eagle in a loser-out match. Mountain View will play Borah in a semifinal.

4A State: An own goal at 48 minutes allowed defending champion Bonneville (17-2) to edge Lakeland 1-0 at Caldwell. Lakeland goalkeeper Cade Coffey blocked the Bees’ first attempt during the scoring play, but the ball bounced back and ultimately went off a Hawks player and into the goal. Coffey stopped a penalty kick midway through the second half, when the Bees were held to two shots on goal. Lakeland (11-5-3) will play Burley at 10 a.m. today in a loser-out match.

• 3A State: Sergio Campos and Zach Clark scored two goals apiece to guide Filer (8-7-4) to a 5-0 win over Bonners Ferry in an opener at Vallivue High in Caldwell. Filer is on a roll, having won its district tourney after placing fourth in its league. The Wildcats will play Teton in today’s semifinal. The Badgers (7-10-1) will meet Fruitland at 10 a.m. in a loser-out match.

Girls soccer

• 5A State: Savannah Larsen and Samantha Cordum scored to give Boise (14-3-1) a 2-1 win over Lake City in an opener at Meridian High. Nikki Webster scored for the Timberwolves (10-5-3), who play Mountain View at 8 a.m. today in a loser-out match. Boise plays Highland in a semifinal. … In another opener, Maggie Saros and Maison O’Neill had one goal and one assist apiece to lead Timberline (12-3-3) to a 5-2 win over Lewiston. Lacey Sumpter and Jo Jo O’Kelley scored for the Bengals (9-6-3), who play Meridian at 10:30 a.m. today in a loser-out match. Timberline will meet Rocky Mountain in a semifinal.

4A State: Sandpoint (6-8-5) opened play with a 4-0 win over Madison (10-6-1) at Caldwell. The Bulldogs will meet Twin Falls at 1 p.m. today in a semifinal.

3A State: Kellogg lost 3-0 to Community School (14-4-1) and Timberlake lost 4-0 to Teton (14-1-2) in openers at Vallivue High in Caldwell. In today’s 10 a.m. loser-out matches, Kellogg (9-3-3) will play Marsh Valley and Timberlake (8-8-2) will meet Bliss.
