Blocked The Toronto Blue Jays don’t intend to let manager John Farrell leave for the same job with the Boston Red Sox. The Jays issued a statement that said employees won’t be permitted to leave for the same job in another organization. General manager Alex Anthopoulos previously said employees were permitted to speak with any team about any job.
Returned LSU coach Les Miles said star cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, leading rusher Spencer Ware and defensive back Tharold Simon have returned to practice. The three were suspended for the unbeaten Tigers’ 45-10 victory over Auburn for violating the team’s drug policy, but Miles said they should be on the field when top-ranked LSU visits second-ranked Alabama on Nov. 5 in what has become one of the most anticipated games of the college football season.
Declined The Minnesota Twins decided to buy out the last year of closer Joe Nathan’s deal for $2 million instead of paying him $12.5 million, but general manager Bill Smith said he called Nathan and his agent to inform them of the move and told them the team wants to re-sign the right-hander.
Suspended NASCAR issued four-week suspensions to the crew chiefs and car chiefs for Martin Truex Jr., David Reutimann and Bobby Labonte. Chad Johnson, Rodney Childers and Frank Kerr also were fined $50,000 each, and the drivers docked 25 points apiece. The penalties are from illegal windshields discovered during inspection Friday. NASCAR said they did not have the appropriate thickness. The windshields were never used in competition.
Signed University of Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill finally signed his contract, a seven-year deal finalized Tuesday that runs through the 2017 season. Kill was working since his hire last December under the terms of a five-year agreement for $1.1 million annually.
Hired The Kansas City Royals hired Dave Eiland as their new pitching coach. Eiland served three seasons as the New York Yankees’ pitching coach.
