Rodeo begins two-day run
Rough stock events featured each night
If you get tired of walking through the barns, exhibition halls or midway during the first two days of the Spokane Interstate Fair, check out the grandstand.
Overflow entries, plus the addition of steer roping, means plenty of extra action at the PRCA rodeo.
In addition to the 7 p.m. performances today and Saturday, there is “slack,” which accommodates all the overflow entries, after each show. Tonight it is tie-down roping, steer wrestling and team roping; Saturday it’s barrel racing.
The steer roping is Saturday morning at 10.
A number of other champion contenders are scattered throughout the entries as the cowboys juggle Spokane with rodeos in Puyallup and Lewiston.
All the rough stock events are during the two regular performances, including 17 bull riders each night and a total of 35 saddle bronc riders tackling stock from Corey and Horsst Rodeo Company out of Moses Lake. That includes bronc rider Cody DeMoss of Heflin, La., who tied the arena record of 91 in winning Ellensburg on Labor Day. Currently sixth in the world standings, DeMoss is up Saturday night.
