Gonzaga Prep tops CV in GSL volleyball

Lindsay Stockton had 20 kills and Bianna Nikdel added 37 assists Tuesday as Gonzaga Prep (2-0) stayed atop the early Greater Spokane League volleyball standings with a 25-20, 25-10, 26-28, 25-12 win at Central Valley.

Clare Akers added 18 digs for the Bullpups.

Sam Block totaled 15 assists and three blocks for the Bears (1-1). Mikayla Ness led CV with nine digs.

Also in the GSL, Hannah Zalopany finished with eight kills and 11 digs as Mead (2-0) cruised to a sweep over visiting North Central (1-1). Mead’s Paige Montgomery added seven kills and five blocks. Sam Hill led the Indians with eight kills, two aces and four blocks. … Ixchelle Oleson totaled 13 kills and five digs while leading Mt. Spokane (2-0) to a sweep over visiting Ferris (0-2). The Wildcats’ Annie Arnzen added 17 assists and four aces. … Darby Santos had team highs of 10 kills, 22 digs and five aces as Shadle Park (1-1) registered a 3-1 win at Rogers. Chloe Brooks added 22 digs for the Highlanders. Rachel Flint had 16 digs and four aces for the Pirates (0-2). … Kayleigh Valley’s 18 kills helped host University (1-1) to a sweep over visiting Lewis and Clark (0-2). Kylie Collins added 27 assists and Jessie Barth 18 digs for the Titans. Mercedes Montoya had eight kills for the Tigers. … Thursday’s highlight match will be Mead at Mt. Spokane. G-Prep will attempt to keep pace with the winner during a Friday match at LC.

• Cheney (2-0) rallied from a lopsided third-game loss to defeat visiting Pullman 22-25, 27-25, 11-25, 25-18, 15-12 in the Great Northern League. Liz Gill, who finished with 12 kills and four aces, served the Blackhawks toward an 8-1 lead in the final game. Jeni Nakata led the Greyhounds (2-1) with 24 kills and 23 digs. … Also in the league, Kimmie Brazington totaled 12 kills and 17 digs as Deer Park (2-1) rallied for a 20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 27-25, 18-16 marathon win at East Valley in the Great Northern League. Alisha Perez added four aces and three blocks for the Stags. Sam Geibel led the Knights (1-2) with 17 kills and eight aces. … Visiting Medical Lake (0-3) and Clarkston also went five games, with the Bantams (2-0) holding on for a 25-12, 19-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-10 win. Casey McConnell led Clarkston with 20 kills, four aces and three blocks. Kalana Brown had 12 kills for the Cardinals, and Jessica Baier added 24 digs and seven aces.

• Lake City (1-0) outlasted host Coeur d’Alene 27-25, 15-25, 25-16, 19-25, 15-12 in Inland Empire League 5A play. For the Vikings (1-2), Anyssa Matheson had 11 kills and five aces, Sydney Williams had eight blocks and Demi Johnson added 12 digs.

Boys soccer

Jeremiah Gagnon scored the winner at 54 minutes as visiting Sandpoint (6-2, 3-0) wrapped up the top seed to districts with a 2-1 win at Moscow (3-4, 1-2) in IEL 4A play. The host Bears led on Nick Celebrezze’s goal until Raleigh Hansen scored for Sandpoint at 36 minutes.

Girls soccer

Katy McNair fed Chae Brown for the winning goal at 70 minutes to give Cheney (1-3, 1-1) a 2-1 over visiting Pullman (4-2, 2-1) in the Great Northern League. McNair got possession on the outside and beat two defenders to set up Brown’s 1-on-1 play from 18 yards out. … Also in the GNL, Brittany Dugger had a hat trick during the first 25 minutes and capped the first half with an assist while leading East Valley (3-4, 2-1) to a 5-0 win at Deer Park (2-3, 1-2). … Kristen Kirking totaled two goals and one assists, and Kellyn Zipse added one goal and one assist as host Clarkston (1-2, 1-1) posted a 7-1 win over Medical Lake (0-4, 0-3).

• Post Falls (2-2-1, 0-1-1) scored in the 74th minute to forge a 1-all tie at Lewiston in Inland Empire League 5A play. Lacey Sumpter scored at 51 minutes for the Bengals (2-2-1, 2-1-1).
