Golf section will review Las Vegas courses

Golf: Spokane-area basketball fans have learned to double their pleasure with postseason college basketball action in Las Vegas.

With the WCC, WAC and the Pac-12 (next year) basketball tournaments all around the same time in March, area fans have a chance to get in a little golf between all the basketball action.

Staff writer Jim Meehan and staff photographer Christopher Anderson visited three Las Vegas courses last month when they were in town to cover the Gonzaga men and women in the WCC tournaments.

Their review of the courses is part of our special section on golf inserted into today’s paper.

Ultimate Fighter spotlights Chiesa

Mixed martial arts: Spokane Valley resident Michael Chiesa will be in the octagon today in Episode 5 of The Ultimate Fighter on FX at 10 p.m..

Chiesa, on the team coached by Urijah Faber, will take on Jeremy Larsen, coached by Dominick Cruz.

Chiesa and fellow Spokane Valley fighter Sam Sicilia are on opposite teams in the UFC drama made for TV. Both made the final cut for the 15th season of the show, but were drafted on different teams.

Regardless of the outcome tonight, the two will remain on the show and continue to train with their respective teams.

Young wrestlers meet for tourney

Wrestling: The Jason Crawford Memorial Tournament is out to break a world record on Saturday.

The Guinness Bowl of World Records will have an agent at the event to certify it as the largest one-day wrestling event in the world.

The youth wrestling tournament at the Spokane Convention Center is anticipating 1,400 wrestlers. There will be 18 matches running simultaneously all day.

Wrestling begins at 9:30 a.m. Entry fee for spectators age 10 and above will be $3.
