of Life
Lyle Lynn Wiltse, died April 2, 2012.
After being diagnosed with Stage 4 Multiple Myeloma and given a four-month prognosis, he lost his nearly 3 1/2-year battle with the disease.
While his diagnoses momentarily caused his zeal for life to falter, his fighting spirit was never so apparent as it was over these past few years as he waged war on his disease and the effects and side effects of chemotherapy and other treatments he received from loving doctors, nurses, and medical personnel.
Lyle was blessed with just over 3 1/2 more years in this life, during which he accomplished some of the things on his bucket list.
With his sweetheart by his side he made it to places like the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and the Everglades.
He enjoyed grandchildren’s graduations, church missions, weddings, and even welcomed a few great-grandchildren into the world.
Most of all he blessed his family and friends with time to adjust to his parting.
Lyle was a lifelong resident of Eastern Washington.
Born in Hunters, WA on April 15, 1938, his family moved to Deer Park, WA when he was in the 7th grade.
He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1957.
Following school he went to work for the Great Northern Railroad’s Communications Department working on their telegraph pole line.
He married his high school sweetheart, Sheila M. VanSlyke, on January 18, 1958.
The railroad took him and his new bride to their first home in Eureka, MT.
They followed the railroad around the country through parts of Idaho, Montana and Washington.
Eventually, he left the railroad to follow his dream of farming.
They bought their home and their first 17 acres near Clayton, WA.
They continued to grow their farm with additional land purchases adjacent to their own.
While growing the farm, Lyle supported his family by working multiple jobs.
He worked at the Deer Park Sawmill, drove school bus for the Deer Park School District and delivered freight for Deer Park Auto Freight on Saturdays while also working with his family to clear timber from the land so he could farm.
He finally gave up his last side job as a sanitation contractor for the City of Deer Park, and devoted himself to full time farming in the early 1980s.
Lyle passed away at home on the peaceful farm he and his entire family including his father, mother, sisters, brothers and other extended family members worked on over the years.
Lyle is survived by his wife Sheila Wiltse; Lyle and Judy Wiltse of Noxon, MT; Loren and Madonna Wiltse of Cheney, WA; Robin (Wiltse) and Alex Powell of Spokane, WA; Bryon and Paula Wiltse of Clayton, WA; Leanne Wiltse of Salt Lake City, UT; Christine (Wiltse) and Ted Thornton of Conrad, MT; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandkids; two sisters, Ellen Lewis of Deer Park, WA, and Darlene Stach of Ferndale, WA; two brothers, William Wiltse, of Gaston, OR, and Richard Wiltse of Mead, WA.
Funeral Services honoring Lyle will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Riverside Chapel, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Chattaroy, Washington, with his son, Bishop Bryon Wiltse, conducting, followed with interment in Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park.
Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, Lyle’s family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Spokane, P.O.
Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210-2215.
