Obituary: Buck, Nelson Theodore
BUCK, Nelson Theodore
(Age 85)
Passed away April 12, 2012.
Born to Alfred and Viola Buck July 30, 1926 in Bucks County, PA.
While serving his country during WWII he missed a blind date being called to duty but was able to carry on a pen pal relationship with Hazel Marie Dennis.
They were married July 4, 1947 and had three children; Betty, Richard and Jim.
In 1951 he started a lifelong career at Kaiser Aluminum’s Mead plant.
An avid hunter, and despite the loss of his right eye, an excellent marksman.
He once put two bullets through nearly the same hole on a target 85 yards away and was known to family members as the “man who shot the biggest thing in Pend O’Reille County.
“
In spite of working swing shift he seemed to have time to take the grandkids for walks in the woods, do some target shooting, or pick some berries for dessert from the garden.
The holidays were always special times with the grandkids anxiously awaiting the special visit from Santa after Christmas dinner.
Taking early retirement from Kaiser in the early 80s he continued to do the things he enjoyed: traveling back east to visit family, working around the house, gardening and spending time outdoors and hunting.
He tagged his last 4 pt.
buck two seasons ago and was just as excited to get his last as he was to get his first.
Nelson is survived by Hazel, his wife of 64 years; children Betty Carlson and Jim Buck; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10AM-8PM Tuesday and Wednesday at Heritage and a Funeral Service 2:00PM Thursday April 19, 2012 at Heritage Chapel.
