Obituary: Schmidt, Earl H.
Age 88
Passed away in Yuma Arizona on April 2, 2012.
Earl was born on January 4, 1924, in Charlo Montana.
His family moved to Spokane when he was a boy and he attended North Central High School and graduated in 1941.
Earl went on to attend Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington where he played football up until the time he enlisted in the US Navy.
He actively served his country on the USS Nassau as an aviation mechanic until the end of WW II.
In September of 1946 Earl married his life long love, Joyce Swenseth and began a career in livestock trading and order buying.
He was an astute real estate investor which became a life long passion, from which he never truly retired.
Earl was very active in the communities in which he lived.
He and Joyce greatly enjoyed their years at Twin Lakes Idaho where they opened their home and helped raise their many nieces and nephews.
For the past 27 years he and Joyce have been “snowbirds” in Yuma Arizona.
Earl was greatly loved and respected by his Yuma neighbors who looked to him for leadership and guidance on numerous occasions throughout his tenure as a board member of his neighborhood association.
Earl is survived by his wife Joyce of 65 years, brother Warren Schmidt (Nancy), sister Shirley Casey (Patrick).
He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Elsie Schmidt, brother Ruben Schmidt, and sister Gladys Erbes Fletcher.
Services will be held on Saturday April 21st, at 11:00am at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, 2203 North Division Street, Spokane WA.
A reception will follow.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 West Wellesley, Spokane, WA.
