Austin claims spot on Cougar track list
Caroline Austin logged the fifth-fastest time by a Washington State woman in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 19 minutes, 28.91 seconds Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. She was sixth in the Open-A University/Open division.
Also running a lifetime best was WSU’s Andrew Gonzales, who placed eighth in the men’s steeplechase with a mark of 8:55.81.
The Mt. SAC Relays continue through Sunday.
• Idaho’s Andrew Blaser finished third in the decathlon with a career-best 7,069 points, and Johanna Hocketstaller was fifth in the heptathlon with a career-high 4,991 points at the California Invitational Multi-Events at Azusa, Calif.
Golf
Junior Victoria Fallgren, senior Stephanie Corey and coach Brad Rickel of Gonzaga University have been honored on the All-West Coast Conference team.
Rickel was chosen co-coach of the year along with Laurie Gibbs of Pepperdine.
GU finished third in this year’s championship on Wednesday with Fallgren the medalist.
