2012: Outstanding in their field

Greg Koehn of Newport is awarded the Terry Hoffer Memorial Firearm Safety Award, the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department’s top honor for service among the state’s 950 certified hunter education instructors.

Tamae Watanabe, 73, becomes the oldest woman to summit Mount Everest – again. The last time the Japanese climber made the record, she was 63.

Nik Autrey, 19, of Spokane’s Inland Empire Bass Club wins the age 15-18 division of the 2012 Junior Bassmaster World Championship near Decatur, Ala.

Amanda Furrer and Eric Uptagrafft, both Spokane natives, win USA national shooting titles and berths in the Summer Olympic Games in London.

Phil Hough and Deb Hunsicker of Sandpoint where honored by the American Long Distance Hiking Association with the rare Triple Crown Award for completing the Pacific Crest, Continental Divide and Appalachian trails.
