BARTER, James Orr
October 17, 1934 -
January 26, 2012
Jim passed away the morning of January 26.
He was born in Milwaukee, WI and was the oldest son of Lindsey and Emily Barter.
He went into the Air Force in 1954 and in 1955 was stationed at Fairchild Air Force base where he met his wife Janet.
They were married in July of 1956.
He took his family to many different bases around the world and after 23 years retired in the Spokane Valley.
After retiring from the Air Force he worked for Vera Water and Power and later worked for Bonneville Power.
Jim was an artisan in his own right, creating beauty out of wood, steel, and rock.
He loved to share his works with family and friends.
Northing pleased him more than to show off his creations and give them away.
Jim is survived by his wife Janet of 55 years, also three sons; Jay Barter and his wife Michelle who are living in China; Jon Barter and his wife Laurie of Newman Lk, and Jeff who is waiting for him in heaven.
He is also survived by three daughters: Julie MacDonald and her husband Steven of Spokane Valley, Joy Adams and her husband Ted of Medical Lake, Jennifer Lee and her husband John of Fernly, NV.
There are six grandsons, six grand-daughters, and two great-granddaughters who will miss him very much.
Also a brother, Lindsey of Minneapolis, MN; a sister, June of Superior, WI; and ten nieces and four nephews.
Jim always felt that his greatest accomplishment was his family.
He will be Greatly Missed and Greatly Remembered.
Services will be Saturday, February 4th at 10:00 am at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 South Pines Rd.
Following the service there will be a gathering at East Point Church on East Sprague near the corner of Sullivan Rd.
All are welcome, come and celebrate Jim’s life and his passing into his new life.
