Auction to help kids attend camp
Several Valley churches are coming together for an annual auction that raises money to send church youth to summer camp at Camp Lutherhaven on Lake Coeur d’Alene and the Shoshone Base Camp.
The theme of the annual auction is “Hearts and Hands for Lutherhaven.” It begins with a silent auction at 4:30 p.m. today followed by a dinner at 5. The evening at Advent Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway Ave., will also include a live auction. Last year’s event raised more than $11,000 to send 80 children to camp.
The dinner is $5 per person or $20 per family, and tickets will be available at the door. Information: (509) 928-7733
Benefit concert
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will host a benefit concert for the Spokane Valley Partners Food Bank Friday at 7 p.m. The theme of the event is “Journeys” and will include music in a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, folk and country. The performers include choirs, soloists, fiddlers and The Angus Scott Pipe Band. There will be a short pre-show at 6:40 p.m. A dessert reception will follow the concert, which will be hosted by KHQ’s George Maupin.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12 or $30 per family. The church is at 4521 N. Arden Road in Otis Orchards. Child care will be available.

Souper Bowl of Caring
Several Valley churches are participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring on Sunday. Churches around the country will collect $1 bills in soup pots and canned food donations on Super Bowl Sunday. Each church reports how much money is raised, and donations stay in the communities where they were collected.
• Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye, will be collecting donations of canned food following the 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday. The donations will be given to the St. Peter Lutheran Food Bank in Hillyard. The church will also have a bake sale Sunday to raise money for the food bank and ELCA World Hunger.
• Souper Bowl donations will be collected following the 10 a.m. service Sunday at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road.
• Donations will be collected after the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at Opportunity Christian Church, 708 N. Pines Road.
