Janis passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on January 29, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on January 8, 1952 in Delaware.

She is preceded in death by her father, Hiroshi Shimizu, and is survived by her husband of 35 years, Steven; son, Brendan Cassida; daughter Erin Cassida and husband, Ken Eisenlord; daughter, Keegan Cassida; mother, Fukiko Shimizu; sister, Karen Shimizu and father-in-law, Harold Cassida.

Janis spent her childhood in Salt Lake City and Los Angeles, then moved to Minneapolis and later to Spokane, WA.

Janis was an aerobics instructor for the YMCA at various locations and for the last 19 years she has had a career with Horizon Airlines as a passenger service agent.

Her interests included reading, Broadway theater, fitness training, running and extensive travel.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Cancer Care Northwest and Spokane Valley Hospital for the excellent care which Janis received.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made in Janis’ name to the American Cancer Society.

It is her wish that no service be held, however, a Celebration of Life is planned for a later date this Spring.
