Betty May

Of Spokane Valley, passed away, Sunday, February 5th, 2012.

She was born 16 June, 1927 in Visalia, California to Earl Thomas Brooke and Rose Ella Viera Brooke.

She was the oldest daughter of their nine children.

She was preceded in death by her parents long ago.

Her youngest son Larry Lee Lackey passed away in 2007, her husband of 30 years, Antone Tacla in 2006, one sister and two brothers.

She spent most of her life in California and moved to Spokane Valley about six years ago.


Betty was fun, loved life and was a single mother to her two sons.

She loved participating in their lives and spent many years working in scouting and other activities with them.

Since she was the oldest daughter in the family, she has been the rock to her sons and the rest of the family since her parents passed.
Betty dreamed of some day becoming a doctor but married young instead.

She went to nursing school when her boys were young and spent over 30 years in the nursing field.

She loved her work, including the work she did for in private practice, working for several doctors and later in a youth home.


She was a beloved mother and sister to our family.

She is survived by one son, Gene Lackey of Spokane Valley, Washington, three grandchildren and their spouses, Heather of Virginia, Tim Lackey of Virginia and Tammy of St. John, Washington, six great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by three sisters: Peggy Priest and her husband Don Priest of Spokane Valley, Alice Brossard and her husband Wayne Brossard of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Judy Stratton of St. John, Washington and two brothers, Earl Brooke of Ione, Washington, and Jack Brooke and his wife Beverly of Ft. Pierce, Florida, and many, many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Micah Ward building, 4014 S. Bowdish, under the direction of Bishop David Mallonee.


Internment at Greenwood Cemetery at 2 p.m.
