Obituary: Whitbeck, Charles W.

Age 64

WHITBECK,
Charles W.
“Chuck”
(Age 65)

Charles Whitbeck passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 9, 2012, from complications due to chemotherapy.

Chuck was born on March 24, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas, to Charles L. and June Whitbeck.

After a short stint in the U.S. Army during the latter stages of the Vietnam War including an assignment in Germany, he settled in Spokane, where he proudly served as a reserve police officer during Expo ‘74.

He married Kathleen (Geraghty) in 1978.

He loved his kids and grandkids, his home in Spokane and the get-togethers with his extended Geraghty family, especially their holiday gatherings.

Most of all, he loved his wife, Kathleen, and making her happy.

Chuck was a kind and selfless man who loved being of help to his friends and neighbors, especially his senior companions.

Chuck enjoyed many hobbies including cars and hot rods (he loved to detail them), playing Texas Hold Em with his family, star gazing, and county-western music.

He was known for his Texas-style brisket and his Super Bowl (Hot, Hot,) chili.

Chuck was a great friend to all and will be greatly missed by his weekly coffee club friends.

Everyone remembers the nicknames he would give them and will never buy another scratch ticket without remembering him.

He was a consummate salesman and for many years traveled the Pacific Northwest as a pharmaceutical and dental supply rep for several national firms.

He often took his kids with him on those sale trips.

Chuck was preceded in death by sisters Char, Louise, and Joyce, and brother Randy.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kathleen; sons John Whitbeck, Keith Whitbeck, Danny (Cindy) O’Neill, and Brian O’Neill; daughters Stacy Whitbeck, Jennifer (Nathan) LeBret, Karrie O’Neill, and Colleen O’Neill; grandchildren Ryan, Evan, Michael, Nathan, Rachael, Makalia, Brogan, Gabriel, Samuel, and Jacob; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Vigil service will be Wednesday, February 15, at 6:00 p.m. at Assumption BVM Catholic Church, 3624 N. Indian Trail Road.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church.
