In brief: Snowboarder gets lost, found

From Wire Reports

MOUNT HOOD, Ore. – A snowboarder who got lost out of bounds on Mount Hood has been reunited with his friends.

The friends of 34-year-old Lim Dae called for help as darkness fell Saturday. The Mount Hood Ski Patrol began searching and were soon joined by search-and-rescue officials with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

The rescue team called his cellphone and told him to stay put. They reached him by 2:15 a.m. Sunday.

Man rescued after jump from bridge

LEWISTON – A man jumped from the Southway Bridge shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday just after a passer-by yelled for the man to not jump, Asotin County Undersheriff Scott Coppess said.

Two Clarkston firefighters in a rescue boat pulled the man out of the water shortly after 4 p.m.

Lewiston firefighters took the man, said to be in his 40s or 50s, to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, where he was in fair condition Saturday night.

The man jumped from the Clarkston side of the bridge shortly before 4 p.m., Coppess said, when a witness driving across the bridge pulled over after seeing the man near the rail. The driver yelled at the man to not jump, Coppess said, but the man climbed the rail and jumped.

The man was attempting to swim and calling for help before firefighters rescued him, Coppess said.

It was the second time a man jumped from the Southway Bridge last week. The first man died Thursday at St. Joseph Regional.

City may ease up snow-removal rule

SANDPOINT – Officials are considering removing a section of an ordinance concerning sidewalk snow removal, because some say it’s too harsh.

The ordinance requires homeowners to maintain sidewalks along their property.

But the ordinance also allows for city workers to clear the snow in front of a home and then charge the homeowner in the form of a lien against the property.
